There I was, on the brink of panic, trying to figure out why my Scribd* browsing history had half-read Spanish books on gender roles and identity.

I yell to my husband upstairs, “Oh no, we’ve been hacked!” 🙀

Right away, we look for “suspicious log-in” emails in case we missed them. None found.

We check our password manager for possible account breaches. Nada.

We generate a new 10-character password. Secured!

Whew. What Happened?

We rack our brains on who may have accessed our subscription. Did we share it with someone and forget?

Do we know anyone who’s interested in social issues and can read in the world’s most spoken romance language?

Then it hit us.

A couple of months back, we had a guest in our home in the French countryside. We got along well with him when out of the blue…
